Cleveland state University is proud to present Its new Student Center which is located in Ohio and I shall venture to analyze regarding the topics of vertical and horizontal circulation.First of all, this place was built with the principal propose of create an interaction between the faculty and the city, so they can share the services of each parts. Making reference to Ching's book on Circulation, this center has frontal approach to the main thoroughfare to downtown Cleveland. Nevertheless, it also has a little bit of the other approximation types that allow to observe the different angles of its elegant facade.
Horizontal circulation was designed in detail because the main entry goes directly where focus the principal activities and there you can find various connection ways with campus pedestrian bridges, the main plaza and below grade parking. Front my point of view, the structure is adequate in size for the use that will fulfill, it will work correctly in any direction because is well equipped and planned with the necessary elements to have no circulation obstructions; indicates easily the basic shape of the structure (internally and externally) because employed glass and defines a tour of the building edge; and the most relevant is that it has a focal point which permits to see the different access and it'll provide a good circulation in all directions.
On the other hand, vertical circulation was equally and carefully designed too. The building has three levels: level one (which is the street level) provides the basic services available to all public (for example: the bookstore) and there's a ramp (which is the simplest type of vertical circulation) that leads to a redesigned outdoor plaza, the ramp is perfectly located to enjoy outdoor architectural designs and to witness initeresting views. The second floor isn't left behind because it provides direct access to the campuswide interior walkway system. Otherwise, the stairs satisfy its function of making obvious the approaches to an upper floor with the help of the biulding shape and they posses stylish color palette. In my opinion, in this architectural work the circulation elements are sufficiently well distributed to allow a confortably interaction between it users.
